We offer you a self-guided husky safari with a track length 10 km.
Approximate riding time is 35-40 min
This time can vary, as it always includes stop-over and it’s dependent on the weather conditions. During the stop-over musher and passenger can swap.
We will visit a small family-owned husky kennel, located some 30 min drive from Levi center. Kennel owners are professional sport dog mushers and have specially trained Arctic-Alaskan huskies. This breed was created by crossbreeding in the beginning of 20th century in Alaska especially for dog racing during the Gold rush period. There are over 50 dogs in the kennel, including some puppies.
Upon arrival, you will get complete instructions of driving (mushing) the dog sled on your own and then immediately start the safari. Focus on the thrill of riding your own sled to enjoy it. The best part of mushing is not just the ride. It’s about building a bond with these incredible husky dogs. By the end of the ride, you’ll feel part of the team. The track lies partly in the forest and partly on a beautiful frozen river (depending on the kennel). After the ride you can walk around the kennel, pet the dogs and take photos with them. Inside a cozy teepee where you can warm up around the open fire, have a hot drink with cookies. The host will tell about life with the dogs and answer questions.
Note! We don’t recommend this program for very small children (under 7 y.o.) due to longer time outdoors.
Child age: 2-7 years
Note! We don’t recommend this program for very small children (under 7 y.o.) due to longer time outdoors.
We strongly recommend wearing warm winter clothing. It can be rented separately before the departure from the Safarimarket office in Levi center at extra charge. If you want to rent the clothing, please be at least 20 min before pick up time to get dressed.
It’s better to be overly warm dressed than “underdressed”, especially on longer safari programs. In cold weather, we recommend applying no-water based winter cream for face and cover tightly open skin areas. Bring gloves or better mittens, a good hat, hand/foot warmers and goggles.
Please take off your gloves/mittens when touching the huskies. They love to play with gloves and might break it easily. Do not be afraid of the dogs, as they are genetically friendly to people. Do not feed the dogs.
